February 2001

Jaltek, a contract electronics manufacturer based in Luton, UK, is one of the latest companies to install the Takaya APT9400 flying probe tester, supplied by Itochu Europe.

Being a medium–sized CEM, Jaltek requires a high element of flexibility in terms of its testing facilities and the APT9400 provides that flexibility says Andrew Bottomley, Jaltek’s senior test engineer. Another important element in their selection criteria was the access critical for effective testing of high density populated boards as well as the ability to handle large board sizes and more complex shapes.

Furthermore, another advantage of the flying probe tester is in helping to reduce fixturing costs when products are changed which can be prohibitive.

Graham South, Itochu’s Takaya UK Business Manager, confirmed that 2000 had been a very successful year and this latest installation demonstrates that the APT9400’s performance and flexibility is proving very attractive to CEM’s and OEM’s alike.

With a test speed of less than 0.05 sec. per step and a positioning resolution of 2.5 microns (x-y) components and tracks are speedily checked and the Windows software allows for easy downloading from CAD systems using Fabmaster, the APT9400 is very user-friendly as well as being fast and accurate.
